So it turns out that I get to go to New York for work!! I am so excited! There is a disability film festival being held at the Met and I asked my boss to send me and just two days later I am confirmed at the Marriott East Side and looking for Train tickets. I can't wait! The festival looks really interesting and it is only in the afternoons and evenings so I will be able to get out and about a little bit before I have to go to the films. Plus, it is being held at the Met and you can spend days in there without seeing everything so I am really excited to spend some time there. Last time I was in the city I only got to the Met for a couple of hours and that was only enough to breeze through two exhibits. My food and transportation will be covered too so I am anticipating a really nice, relaxing time. Woohoo!

It Turns Out - I'm Not An Idiot!
So, there is a man on my Committee who has had a less-than-impressed attitude about me since day one and I have really struggled with his often mean-spirited, bullying attitude. Regardless of the fact that he has never, until recently, had the opportunity to work with me, he has made it very clear in the past that he has little respect for my abilities. When we lost George in October, this man was one of the first to call my boss and let her know that he did not want me, or any other member of the staff, filling George's position. Unfortunately for him, he got stuck with me anyway. I have now been working with him directly for several weeks and I have noticed that as time goes on he has become more friendly and has begun to rely on me for more and more. Finally, after I had spent two or three days of intensive work in putting together our report to the president exactly as he wants it, he called me last night to discuss the pieces we had been working on. At the end of the call, he said this: "Kodie, I just want to let you know that I appreciate all the work you have done. You have done a really good job - much to my surprise."
Hilarious.

Cherry Blossom Photos!!
Cherry Blossom season is my very favorite time of year in this town and yesterday was the best it has ever been. I spent the afternoon at the tidal basin walking through the trees and taking pictures. As you can see, the weather was not ideal and by the time I got home my pants were muddy and wet up to my knees, but I was so grateful for the rain because it kept most of the tourists away. Unfortunately, it did not keep away a somewhat disturbing Asian guy who stalked me for a good mile around the basin. I eventually lost him for the last mile, but that will teach me to be kind to strangers on the bus!
